Interview with: Remco van Heijningen
from Westmere Roses, the Netherlands
Remco van Heijningen from Westmere Roses in Almere has been growing the grandiflora (large-flowered) white rose “Maroussia!” again since June 2008.
Van Heijningen: “I opted for Flortop due to the low plant density of six plants per m2. Consequently, only three tricklers are positioned on a 100 x 12 x 75 slab, whereas the norm is four. The expectation is that the water distribution over the depth of the slab and between the plants is optimised due to the unique hydrophilic fibre. The measurements taken so far seem to confirm this. The distribution of the WC – measured over the depth of the slab – was very homogenous. The roots were visibly present in the upper layer of the slab. I believe this is quite uncommon in roses, particularly in the Maroussia! cultivar.” In addition, in the longer term, the rose grower also expects perfect water distribution and increased uniformity and homogeneity.
